The annual Panhellenic Pneumonology Conference of the University of Thessaly, named Pneumonology Days, took place from October 10 to October 13 at the university’s Medical School. On the final day, a Round Table Presentation titled “Respiratory Infections in the Coming Winter” highlighted the crucial role of rapid diagnostic tools in managing
respiratory infections during pandemics. With the collaboration of the Pharmaceutical
Association of Larissa, the discussion focused on pandemic prediction models and the
importance of rapid testing.
Data from two recent studies spanning two winters were presented, both utilizing ProGnosis Biotech’s rapid tests. These published studies—Proportions and Seasonal Patterns of Respiratory Viruses via Rapid Tests in Adults at a Greek Hospital (Oct. 2023 – Mar. 2024) and Proportion of Respiratory Syncytial Virus, SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A/B, and Adenovirus Cases via Rapid Tests in the Community during Winter 2023—demonstrated the effectiveness of ProGnosis Biotech Rapid Tests in detecting key viral pathogens such as influenza A and B, SARS-CoV-2, and RSV.
The results showcase how rapid testing facilitates the monitoring of outbreaks, allowing for
timely interventions and better resource allocation. As highlighted, these tools are essential
in pandemic preparedness, providing real-time insights into infection rates and improving
public health strategies.
